Pauline
You know she once looked across
the surface of a glassy lake at sundown,
and thought she'd share this kind of moment
at random times but always with the
same man holding the moment still for her.
And her dearest friend could tell
when her laughter told of tears
that wanted to be free, and of fear
that wouldn't let them go yet.
But even when there were moments
when brightness was stolen
and cloudy dawn merged directly into dusk,
Pauline could still touch the source
of hope long ago passed on by her grandmother,
and maybe the whole line of grandmothers before her.
Then the sun returned and married Pauline's soul,
and grandmother, even little children, smiled the smile
that a perfect moment brings forth in any of us.
And, now, looking for a world to quicken again,
she shines her warmth about, playing with the times,
and drawing forth the form
that will answer her newest prayer.
Shining, singing, dancing, speaking, touching,
all prayers that Pauline creates God with.
And She cries Her gratitude for all the
grandmothers that have kept Her alive.
